CHARTS: PUBG takes Steam top spot thanks to 50% price cut

CHARTS: PUBG takes Steam top spot thanks to 50% price cut

Playerunknown's Battlegrounds has ended Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord's run at the top of the Steam charts.

Currently, the game is on offer with 50 per cent off, which no doubt helped sales of the battle royale progenitor. A reworked version of the Vikendi map is also making a return in the game in the near future which might have contributed to its popularity.

Earlier this month, PUBG Corp admitted the battle royale saw an increase in cheating last year. Furthermore, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Global Series esports event will now be a digital show.

The developer and publisher also claimed second place with PUBG's Survivor Pass: Cold Front, which was released on April 22nd. Valve took the No.3 spot with its Index VR kit. Production for the hardware has, unsurprisingly, been impacted by the coronavirus.

At No.4 is Mount and Blade: Bannerlord, TaleWorlds Entertainment's recently released RPG dropped three places. Currently, in Early Access, the game was released on March 30th. Upon release, the title debuted at No.1 in the Steam chart, it held this position for three consecutive weeks.

The first of two entries for 2K is Xcom: Chimera Squad in fifth place, the strategy title was released on April 24th and can be purchased for 50 per cent off. Looter-shooter Borderlands 3 was the publisher's second entry at No.7, and it also has a sale of 50 per cent. The game came to Steam on March 13th. It experienced a concurrent player count of 93.5k. Borderlands 3 was exclusive to the Epic Games Store for six months following release.

At No.6 is Trials of Mana, Square Enix's JRPG was released on April 24th. In eighth place is Rockstars law-defying title Grand Theft Auto V. The game was the best-selling game of the last decade in the US and the UK. Reportedly, Rockstar has begun work on a new GTA title. The final entry at No.9 is Total War: Warhammer II by Sega.
