Video game Kickstarter projects raised $13 million in the first half of 2021.
That's according to Ico Partners' Thomas Bidaux, who revealed the figure as part of his regular analysis of the crowdfunding platform and showed that this is actually a year-on-year increase on the $11 million that these projects managed to bring in within the first half of 2020. It's actually the second best half-year period since the frankly ridiculous performance in 2015.
During the first half of 2021, 184 video game projects were successfully funded – an increase on the 420 from H1 2020 – with 465 failing to hit their goal. Bidaux says that the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic might well have pushed campaigns out of the January-June 2020 period into the second half of the year.
"Overall, 2021 so far is following the same stability we have observed for video games projects on the platform," Bidaux wrote.
"There is a steady flow of video games creations that find funding on Kickstarter, and there is no sign of decline in sight."
