The Big Indie Pitch has made its way back to Barcelona this month as a part of Pocket Gamer Connects Barcelona, this time sponsored by Xsolla.
This second run of PGC in this city had a bunch of talks, fringe events, networking and fantastic parties. But, of course, as ever, it was the fringe events that were the talk of the town - and that includes The Big Indie Pitch, both on mobile and PC + Console, as two different events.
If you are new to the Big Indie Pitch, this is a speed-dating style, quick-fire pitching competition where indie developers are moved from table to table, giving their pitches to our panels of experts. These judges are from all corners of the games industry, showing their own expertise and views on the various games.
Teams who pitch, whether or not they win, end up gaining valuable feedback on their game and pitching style, alongside quick learnings on how to make a successful elevator pitch for their game. At the end though, there can be only one winner, receiving promotional packages and even a golden Big Indie Pitch baseball bat.
For this Big Indie Pitch sponsored by Xsolla, we saw 14 teams of indie developers come together to showcase their games to our judges.
First Place - Kholin Echo by Insert Disk (Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, PC)
Kholin Echo is a rougelike space action game where you need to find a way to stop the Oblivion Wave - a power that is attempting to destroy the universe, space and time.
You'll need to use your ship to explore procedurally generated planets, fight against enemies and collect energy that can be used to improve your own weapons or abilities. There are tons of secrets hidden in this ancient civilisation.
Second Place - Stranded by Loadstar Games S.L. (PlayStation, Xbox, PC)
Stranded is a knowledge-based puzzle adventure game where you can explore a vibrant alien world as a deaf astrobiologist called Chell. After surviving a starship crash and waking up without any of your memories, you and your alien-cat companion need to manipulate the planet's soundscape to solve puzzles, learn about it's ecosystem and uncover exactly why you have crashed here.
Third Place - Song of the Peacock by Gentle Gravity Studio (Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, PC)
Song of the Peacock is a graphic adnveture game with a strong immersive narrative twist. You take on the role of a child who is inheriting a kingdom at a young age, taking on all of the duty and all of the risk.
You'll go from the comfort of your palace to a mysterious world of spirits and your god's altar. All of the choices you make will determine the fate of not only yourself, but also your kingdom.
