XCOM 2: War of the Chosen debuts in second place in Steam Top Ten

The latest expansion to 2K’s cult hit strategy game XCOM has shot straight to second place in the Steam ranks.

War of the Chosen launched last week to critical acclaim and adds a new story and race to the hit strategy game. This release also brought the base XCOM 2 game back into the Top Ten at No.8.

First place goes to, of course, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds from Bluehole… but at this point, is that a surprise to anyone?

The Game of the Year edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt charts in third place as the franchise celebrates its tenth birthday. The title saw a discount off the back of this.

Meanwhile, fourth place goes to brand new Devolver title Absolver. This was the publisher’s biggest launch to date, with the game managing an impressive 30,000 concurrent users across the PC and PlayStation 4 releases in its first 24 hours.

Last week’s No.2, The Escapists 2, drops five places to eighth position. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege charts at No.9 thanks to the launch of the Blood Orchid update, while Divinity: Original Sin 2 holds up the bottom of the chart in tenth place.

Below is the Steam Top Ten for the week ending September 3rd:

1. Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, Bluehole
2. XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, 2K Games
3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition
4. Absolver, Devolver Digital
5. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valve
6. Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar
7. The Escapists 2, Team17
8. XCOM 2, 2K Games
9. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft
10. Divinity: Original Sin 2, Larian Studios
