Slay the Spire being made into board game

Early Access roguelike card game Slay the Spire is making the leap into the physical realm.

Tabletop firm Contention is turning the release into a board game, though there are few details about what it will actually entail at the moment. The company's website says that Slay the Spire: The Board Game will be a co-operative experience that can be played by between one and four players. A full game apparently takes in the region of 45 minutes.

The game is set for a crowdfunding push on Kickstarter in spring of this year. Slay the Spire was released into Early Access at the end of 2017, selling one million copies by the middle of 2018, before a 1.0 version rolled out in January 2019. The title has since come to PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and iOS devices.

Slay the Spire is, of course, the latest video game to be adapted into a board game. In 2020 alone, Bethesda's Dishonored and Wolfenstein IPs were turned into tabletop games, with the latter raising $598,361 on Kickstarter.

Meanwhile, League of Legends maker Riot set up a board game publishing label called Riot Tabletop.
