The Sonic the Hedgehog movie has made more than $200 million worldwide.
As reported by Deadline, the film has grossed $106.6 million in the US and $203.1 million worldwide. It was released on February 14th.
In its first three days of release, Sonic the Hedgehog made $58 million. Sega's mascot overtook Detective Pikachu - one of Nintendo's mascots - for highest-grossing opening weekend sales for a movie based on games.
In December 2018, fans were treated to a first look at how Sonic would look in his big-screen debut - to say it was nightmare-inducing would be an understatement. Fans worldwide made it known that the blue hedgehog's new realistic look was not a welcome change.
Sega and Paramount made the decision to redesign the popular character. An animator - Tyson Hesse - was brought in, he had previously worked on Sonic Mania. It took five months to redesign Sonic's look.
Last month, Sega revealed 2020 would prove to be a huge year for its beloved franchise. New Sonic announcements will be made on the 20th of each month.
