Codemaster's Grid has 40-car mode that's only on Stadia

Racing game Grid has a new 40 car mode that is only available on Google Stadia.

In an interview with Wccftech, Codemaster’s development director for Grid Mark Green explained the differences between developing titles for different platforms.

“Development on any new hardware is always equal parts exciting and interesting,” said Green.

“Perhaps the area with the biggest difference was the streaming, but also the ability of Stadia to talk to other Stadia so quickly transforms some ideas around multiplayer.

“For example developing a whole new mode for GRID Stadia which has 40 cars on track at the same time, something that just isn’t possible with other hardware.”

According to Green, the new 40-car mode is only just scratching the surface of what the developer can do with Stadia.

“With our 40-car mode, we’ve probably only just scratched the surface of what Stadia is capable of and I’d love to have more time with the Designers and Programmers looking at just how they can utilise the extra power,” said Green.

Grid might not have been a launch title for Stadia, though it is expected to come to the streaming platform by the end of 2019.

The service is set to release with 12 titles, only one of which is exclusive. Stadia will cost $10 a month and is scheduled for launch on November 19th.

Google has opened its first studio - in Montreal Canada - for first-party games. Because of this, it is likely to be a while before any first-party games make their way onto Stadia.
