WWE 2K developer Yuke's parts ways with 2K Games

Japanese developer Yuke's will no longer be working with 2K Games on its WWE titles.

That's according to Video Games Chronicle, who reports that the officially-licensed wrestling franchise was going to be handled by California's Visual Concepts starting with this year's WWE 20k20. That latter company has assisting Yuke's on the WWE 2K IP for years, handling animation, audio and scriptwriting. Yuke will still be supporting 2K when it comes to the wrestling franchise's engine.

“WWE 2K20 will be developed by Visual Concepts, who have worked with Yuke’s on the development of the series since WWE 2K14," publisher 2K said.

“As we’ve continued to invest in the WWE 2K franchise, we’ve seen the Visual Concepts team display incredible passion, talent and commitment to the future of the series. We thank Yuke’s for their years of partnership and are excited to see what the Visual Concepts team brings to the franchise moving forward.”

Earlier this year, Yuke said that it was working on a brand new wrestling IP. It's entirely possible that this will be its focus moving forward.
