Narrative director Mary DeMarle has joined the Mass Effect team at BioWare.
The news was announced by the game's project director, Michael Gamble, who revealed on Twitter that she had come on board as a senior narrative director.
"I'm really excited to let you know that Mary DeMarle will be joining the Mass Effect team as senior narrative director," Gamble wrote.
"You've seen her work in Guardians of the Galaxy & Deus Ex (to name a few!). She's amazing."
DeMarle has worked in the industry since 1998, starting out at Presto Studios on Myst III: Exile. From there she moved to Relic Entertainment before landing a role at Ubisoft. In 2007 she joined Eidos Montreal and has worked on the likes of Deus Ex Human Revolution, its 2016 sequel Mankind Divided, as well as the recently released Guardians of the Galaxy game.
Word that a new Mass Effect game was in production broke at The Game Awards 2020 when BioWare showed a brief teaser trailer. The project has seemingly attracted a number of veterans at the studio, who have joined the development team.
This new title will apparently use Unreal Engine 5 rather than DICE's Frostbite, which BioWare used for 2014's Dragon Age Inquisition and 2017's Mass Effect Andromeda.
