PayPal pulls Steam support for most currencies

Valve has confirmed that PayPal is no longer processing transactions on Steam in a lot of counties.

The company updated its Purchasing Issues Q&A page to explain that back in early July it was informed by PayPal that its acquiring bank for payment transactions was terminated the processing of Steam transactions in certain currencies.

At the time of writing, Valve has said that it can only accept transactions paid in Euros, Canadian Dollars, British Pounds, Japanese Yen, Australian Dollars and US Dollars via PayPal.

"We hope to offer PayPal as an option for these currencies in the future but the timeline is uncertain," Valve wrote.

"We are also evaluating adding additional payment methods on Steam for the customers affected by this."

In a statement to Rock Paper Shotgun, Valve also confirmed that PayPal's acquiring bank pulling support for Steam is related to content found on the platform "related to what we’ve previously commented on surrounding Mastercard".

This follows Steam and Itch.io being targeted for their NSFW game content in a campaign orchestrated by the anti-porn group Collective Shout. Said organisation is going after these platforms by interfering with their payment providers.
