Former PlatinumGames designer Takahisa Taura has left the developer and founded a brand new outfit called Eel Game Studio.
That's according to Famitsu – translated by Genki and spotted by VGC – which reports that this new venture has been set up after months of speculation as to whether Taura was still at Platinum or not. He removed a reference to him working at the studio from his Twitter last year.
There's little in the way of details so far, save for the fact that Taura is a founding member of this studio.
Taura is the latest high-level member of staff to depart PlatinumGames, following founder Hideki Kamiya departing the studio back in 2023. He's now back at Capcom working at a new studio called Clovers, a reference to Clover Studio the venture that he worked at between 2004 and 2006.
"If I was satisfied at Platinum, then I wouldn't have left," Kamiya told VGC once the studio was unveiled.
"If there was one thing I am worried about, it's the fact I was VP and chief game designer of PlatinumGames. And so with me quitting, I worry about the people there, the staff there."
Takahisa Taura was a designer on titles including Nier Automata and Astral Chain.
