The Sims 4 hits 70m players

Over 70 million people have played The Sims 4.

That's according to publisher Electronic Arts, which has announced that this is the largest audience that an entry in the franchise has seen to date.

The Sims 4 launched back in 2014, with the base game being made free to players in October 2022. Since that point, over 16 million people have downloaded the title, with average weekly users rising by 53 per cent.

The number of players outside of North America has also shot up, too. 75 per cent of new users are from areas such as Brazil, France, Germany and the UK.

“It’s incredible to see how much our community has grown over the past eight years, and our players continue to inspire us with the countless ways they explore life in The Sims 4,” the game's executive producer Phillip Ring said.

“We know The Sims 4 continues to be a creative outlet for people, and our team strives to deliver new and innovative gameplay content that empowers our players to embrace the chaos that comes with self-discovery.”

Back in June 2020, EA boasted that The Sims 4 had "nearly" ten million monthly users.
