EA announces new Sims game Project Rene

Electronic Arts is working on a brand new entry in The Sims franchise.

The title was unveiled in a product showcase by VP of franchise creative for The Sims, Lyndsay Pearson, who said that the upcoming release is codenamed Project Rene. This game is in early development over at Maxis, so don't expect anything to be out in the wild any time soon, but Pearson did say that EA will be sharing work-in-progress information as time goes on.

“We are building the next-generation Sims game and creative platform,” Pearson said. “Reimagining The Sims you know and love with new ways to play. This is the future of The Sims, built on a foundation of charming Sims, powerful tools, and meaningful stories.”

She continued: “We start with our creative tools, a key part of our Sims DNA. We’re experimenting with what’s worked and where we can push further to offer more flexibility than ever before. We begin with the ability to change not only patterns and colours, but also the shapes of the objects that you’ll be using when you build and decorate in game.”

The Sims 4 has attracted over 36 million people across all platforms since its 2014 release. That title also went free-to-play earlier this week.
