Tencent sets up new studio in Liverpool

Chinese tech and entertainment giant Tencent is opening a brand new studio in the UK's Liverpool.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the venture is being led by Tencent Games Global's VP of partnerships, Pete Smith.

The studio also has two directors of studio partnerships in Ivan Davies and Tom O'Connor, as well as Jon Lawrence as development director of studio partnerships.

"Given our continued expansion into the global market, we wanted a central location for our production staff to call home," Smith said. "In-person mentoring is key to the growth of our department and its skillset, and we feel this is best achieved through regular on-site collaboration.

"Liverpool is a vibrant city full of creativity and diversity and has been a hub of game development since the start of the gaming industry. We believe the production talent and industry experience available in the local area will accelerate our growth and capabilities."

This is Tencent's second venture in the city of Liverpool. Back in 2017, the Chinese giant invested in local indie developer Milky Tea.
