New PUBG map, Fortnite features, Dragon Age, Far Cry and Mortal Kombat titles headline The Game Awards 2018

The Game Awards might be a chance to celebrate the success stories in our industry, but it's also a chance for companies in said industry to show off what they are working on.

Yes, once again the awards show saw a variety of big announcements on-stage. Ubisoft revealed brand new Far Cry game New Dawn, set to launch on February 15th, while Warner Bros showed off its latest entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise with a spectacularly (Ed - do you mean sickeningly?) violent trailer. But that's what the IP is known for, we suppose.

It was a big night for battle royale games, too, with PUBG Corp revealing a brand new map for Playerunknown's Battlegrounds. This was previously teased at E3 and features a snowy aesthetic. That it's on the test servers now. Meanwhile, Fortnite now features an area called The Block, which replaces the Risky Reels area on the map and will feature player-made content built via the new Creative Mode.

Obsidian, Studio Wildcard, Hello Games and Supergiant all revealed new titles on-stage, too, in first-person shooter The Outer Worlds, MMO survival title Atlas, mysterious The Last Campfire and dungeon-crawler Hades respectively.

Oh, and EA showed off more of its forthcoming Destiny-like Anthem, and teased Dragon Age 4,
