Simplified Chinese is now Steam's most popular language

The most popular language on Steam is now Simplified Chinese.

That's according the most recent hardware survey for Valve's platform from December, which shows that 37.8 per cent of participants were using Simplified Chinese. That comes in ahead of English, which was 30.4 per cent of the results.

This isn't entirely accurate as not all users take part in the hardware survey, but it is the first time that the Chinese language has surpassed English on Steam.

China is becoming a bigger part of Valve's platform. Back in 2018, Niko Partners' Daniel Ahmad said that the number of Chinese users on Steam surpassed the 30m mark. Then in November 2019, Valve ran a Single's Day sale, which is a Chinese holiday.

Titles like Total War: Three Kingdoms have also proved to be huge in this region, making it the fastest-selling entry in that franchise's history.
