Assassin's Creed franchise lead Marc-Alexis Côté has said it was not his decision to leave Ubisoft. 

In a post on LinkedIn, the development vet said that it had been decided that someone "closer" to the organisational structure take over this position. Côté was seemingly offered another job, though this was not the same as the position he had been in. This could be part of Assassin's Creed now being under the remit of the newly-formed Tencent-backed Vantage Studios subsidiary. 

"A different position was mentioned, but it did not carry the same scope, mandate, or continuity with the work I had been entrusted with in recent years," Côté said.

"I want to be clear that I hold no resentment. Ubisoft has been my home for all my professional life, and I will always be grateful for the people, the projects, and the belief that together we could create worlds that inspire millions."

"In the later years of my career I came to see myself as the captain of the Assassin’s Creed ship, someone who leaves only once every soul on board is safe.

"And that is exactly what I have done for as long as I could."

Ubisoft announced earlier this week that Côté had departed the company after over 20 years.
