Hollow Knight Steam concurrent peak hits 71k ahead of Silksong release

Indie smash hit Hollow Knight has hit a new peak concurrent player figure of over 71,000 over on Steam.

That's according to SteamDB, which shows that the title was being played by 71,083 users at its peak over the weekend. At the time of writing, Hollow Knight has over 69,000 players.

If you're curious, the game's concurrent player figure has risen by almost 800 per cent in the last 30 days. During that time, developer Team Cherry revealed that the long and eagerly-awaited sequel would be launching on September 4th, which has no doubt driven a wealth of hype for the original.

Hollow Knight launched back in 2017 following a modestly successful Kickstarter campaign. The title has sold over 15 million copies since its release and has no doubt sold a lot more in the last month on the back of Silksong hype.

Given its long development and small team, there were concerns that Team Cherry was in development hell with Silksong; but it appears the opposite has been true.

“We’ve been having fun,” Team Cherry co-founder Ari Gibson said. “This whole thing is just a vehicle for our creativity anyway. It’s nice to make fun things.”

He continued: “It was never stuck or anything. It was always progressing. It’s just the case that we’re a small team, and games take a lot of time. There wasn’t any big controversial moment behind it.”
