The wildly-anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong has now been wishlisted by almost five million people over on Steam.
That's according to data from Alinea Analytics's Rhys Elliott, who reports that Team Cherry's eagerly-awaited indie title is the most wishlisted title on the Steam platform at the moment with 4.8 million signing up for the title.
20 per cent of these wishlists are from consumers in the United States, while 15 per cent are from China. Other countries including Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan and Russia are also in the Top Ten. Elliott also says that the original Hollow Knight has shifted over nine million copies on Steam alone since its 2017 debut.
Silksong was announced as DLC for Hollow Knight but soon evolved into its own game. Developer Team Cherry has said very little about the project since, resulting in a rabid and, er, 'enthusiastic' fanbase. Just check out r/Silksong, it's a fun time.
"The high engagement makes sense. Silksong updates have been sporadic, sometimes a year or more apart," Elliott wrote.
"But the community treats each drip of information as an event in itself – whether it’s a blog post about enemy design, confirmation of a 2025 release, or even an update to the game’s Steam page.
"The drip-feed strategy might seem odd in an industry where constant visibility is often equated with relevance, but in Silksong’s case, it has created a mystique."
In second place in the Steam wishlist rankings is the recently-revealed Battlefield 6, which boasts 2.8 million eager consumers. That's on top of 657,000 pre-orders. Arc Raiders – from former DICE staff at Embark – takes the No.3 spot with 2.5 million users.
Dying Light: The Beast and Borderlands 4 took fourth and fifth places with 2.3 million and 1.8 million gamers, respectively.
Disclaimer: Alex Calvin is a delusional fool who loves Hollow Knight an insane amount, but not enough to attempt Path of Pain.
