Co-development giant Virtuos is making layoffs.
The news was initially broken by French journalist Gauthier Andres on BlueSky, who said that the company was cutting seven per cent of its staff, roughly 300 people.
Since, Virtuos has confirmed the layoffs, saying that 200 members of staff in its Asian arm are being made redundant, with another 70 roles across Europe hit. Finally, "fewer than ten" positions in France are affected.
VIrtuos says that it has taken this decision to meet "the changing needs of our partners and the industry".
"As game development grows increasingly complex, we are realigning our global footprint and capabilities to strengthen our offering in high-value co-development, ranging from full game engineering to advanced art, including creative content production and live services," the company continued.
Virtuos says that impacted staff will receive separation pay, help with finding further work, and the opportunity to find another job across its global business.
Virtuos is best known for its work on The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, which came out earlier this year; the company is also creating the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. On top of that, Virtuos has contributed to the likes of Dune: Awakening, Cyberpunk 2077 and Sea of Thieves.
This is just the latest set of job cuts we are seeing in the industry; most recently, Microsoft made its fourth round of layoffs in 18 months.
