Activision says COD microtransaction ads were accidental test

US publishing giant Activision has claimed that microtransactions in Call of Duty titles were added by mistake.

In a post on Twitter, the game's official account said that this was merely a test that was pushed live by accident. Aforementioned ads appeared on the Loadout menus in Black Ops 6 and Warzone.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, this did not go down well with the fanbase, while one user compared the company's post responding to the incident to "soviet era level gaslighting".

"A UI feature test that surfaced select store content in the Loadout menus was published in the Season 04 update in error," Activision wrote.

"This feature has now been removed from the live game."
