French union calls for Don't Nod strike following proposed layoffs

French video games union Syndicat des Travailleurs et Travailleuses du Jeu Vidéo (STJV) has called for a strike at Parisian developer Don't Nod.

In a post on its website, the organisation said that leadership at the Life is Strange studio's leadership was using the economic situation as a smokescreen to let staff go. This comes in the wake of Don't Nod saying that it was implementing a "reorganisation" plan that could see 69 members of staff losing their jobs.

"The Don't Nod union section, and the STJV as a whole, cannot tolerate that the responsibility for the company's failures be placed on its employees," the union wrote.

"We call on all Don't Nod workers to mobilise now to safeguard their jobs and working conditions."

In an attempt to explain why it was proposing these layoffs, Don't Nod said during its most recent financials: "Amid deteriorating results, and despite the actions already taken, the company is now compelled to consider a reorganisation project to safeguard its competitiveness in an increasingly demanding and competitive ecosystem.

"This project could impact Don't Nod workforce in France and may affect up to 69 jobs. An initial exchange took place today with the employee representative bodies, and an information-consultation process with these same bodies will subsequently be initiated regarding this project."
