Universal is working on a Ruiner film

There is a film based on dystopian sci-fi title Ruiner in the works.

Variety reports that Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to Polish studio Reikon's 2017 indie hit. Director Wes Ball is attached to head up proceedings, having previously worked on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and The Maze Runner films. Meanwhile, Michael Arlen Ross is adapting the screenplay.

Kelly McCormick and David Leitch of Bullet Train and Fall Guy fame are producing the film via 87North.

Ruiner came out in 2017 and has shifted four million copies to date.

"You knew this was coming. Universal Pictures has officially started work on the film adaptation of our game Ruiner," developer Reikon wrote on Twitter. "Directed by Wes Ball, the film will bring the gritty cyberpunk world of Rengkok to life. Get ready for an intense ride!"

Wes Ball is also working on a live-action adaptation of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda.
