14.5k games launched on Steam in 2023

In a very unsurprising turn of events, a record number of games launched on Steam last year.

Data from SteamDB shows that 14,531 titles were released on Valve's platform in 2023; that's a 15 per cent increase on the 12,562 games that came out in Steam during 2022. It also works out at roughly 40 new releases each and every day.

The 14,531 games also clocks in at more than double the 6,949 titles that were released in 2017, the year that started doing its thing. That was also when Valve rolled out Steam Direct, which allowed anyone to release a game on the platform for a fee of $100. Its predecessor, Greenlight, saw developers trying to impress the community, which decided what could be released on Steam.

Back to 2023, the most popular month for releasing a game was – once again – October. During this month in 2023, 1,324 titles were launched.
