Roblox is moving away from remote work

Games platform Roblox is ending remote work for its employees.

In a post on its website, CEO and founder Dave Baszucki wrote that it was asking an unspecific number of workers to return to its office in San Mateo, California. They have until next summer to comply.

As for why Roblox has taken this decision, Baszucki says that this is due to the belief that working in person is better for innovation. The chief exec also says that he is concerned about graduates joining the company, who he says will learn better through in-person work.

"We did not make this decision lightly, as we understand that the decision to move is significant, both for our employees and for their families and loved ones," the exec wrote.

"All remote employees will receive an email within the next hour with details about the impact of this decision on the location of their roles."

Baszucki continued: " During this time we had numerous deep discussions and we kept coming back to the notion that, ultimately, Roblox is an innovation company and we needed to get back to working in person. We were also concerned about many cohorts, such as our new college graduates and people early in their careers, who typically learn through social contact and would miss out on this mentorship. And of course this requires the presence of senior employees to provide that mentorship."
