Perfect Random wins The Very Big Indie Pitch with action-adventure game SULFUR

Recently Pocket Gamer Connects packed its bags and headed back to Helsinki for Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki. This also meant the return of The Very Big Indie Pitch.

The Very Big Indie Pitch is our bumper edition competition where even more developers can pitch an ever-increasing range of brand-new and diverse gaming experiences from some of the most exciting indie developers from across the globe.

The Big Indie Pitch is a regular event run by the makers of PCGamesInsider.biz. It gives indie developers the chance to pitch their games to industry experts and journalists in a speed-dating-style format. Teams receive valuable feedback and the opportunity to win great prizes such as promotional packages and opportunities to promote their game.

As always, the competition was extremely tough. However, eventually, the judges were able to settle on a top three and ultimately one worthy winner.

The Big Indie Pitch returns to Helsinki

All in all, one thing is for sure: all of our finalists, which you can learn more about below, are more than worthy of highlighting.

1st Place - SULFUR by Perfect Random

SULFUR is a first-person action adventure that blends modern and old-school gameplay in order to create an engrossing and adaptive experience. Whether players want to plan ahead and carefully execute a plan to outsmart their enemies, or simply run in all guns blazing, SULFUR has been made in a way that players can customise the playstyle to their tastes.

Of course, visceral and intense combat isn't all that's on offer as players progress through a world of dark creatures and cunning evil. Alongside this SULFUR also offers treasure to locate, weapon improvements and customisation, and a world of secrets to uncover and solve.

2nd Place - MonsterCare by Housefolk

MonsterCare is a cosy management simulation in which players take control of a wellness centre for recuperating monsters. Taking inspiration from the likes of Two Point Hospital and Tamagotchi's, players are challenged to create a world-leading dream resort whilst also making sure that the visiting monsters get as much rest and rehabilitation as possible before heading back to their stressful lives.

Players will have to be strategic in how they allocate not only their, resources but also their time. Each monster at the resort will have a different set of needs and preferences, and you'll have to make sure that your resort can offer them. Ultimately, the success of the resort will rely on the satisfaction of your patrons, so get ready to start liking after an eclectic mixture of guests.

3rd Place - Ahti by One Trick Entertainment

Ahti is a pixel-art-inspired third-person co-op action-adventure game that utilises a unique 'Fog of War' mechanic. Set deep in a submerged world in which players must control exploration robots on a dangerous mission. A mission that follows on from the human race abandoning planet Earth and relocating to Mars. Throughout the game, players will have to explore, fight and even evolve if they are to survive this treacherous mission.
