Happiest Dark Corner's charming adventure title A Cat's Manor walks away Very Big Indie Pitch winner in London

After a whole year, it was finally time for the Big Indie Pitch to return to London, for our flagship show Pocket Gamer Connects London 2023!

This also meant the return of The Very Big Indie Pitch. The Very Big Indie Pitch is our bumper edition competition where even more developers can pitch an ever-increasing range of brand-new and diverse gaming experiences from some of the most exciting indie developers, not only from the UK but all across the globe.

The Big Indie Pitch is a regular event run by the makers of PCGamesInsider.biz. It gives indie developers the chance to pitch their games to industry experts and journalists in a speed-dating-style format. Teams receive valuable feedback and the opportunity to win great prizes such as promotional packages and opportunities to promote their game.

The Big Indie Pitch returns to London

As always, the competition – with 13 games pitched – was extremely tough. However, eventually, the judges were able to settle on a top three and ultimately one worthy winner.

All in all, one thing is for sure: all of our finalists, which you can learn more about below, are more than worthy of highlighting.

1st Place - A Cat's Manor by Happiest Dark Corner

A Cat's Manor is a puzzle-based adventure game, centred around the theme of self-discovery. Having woken up with no memory, and seeing a hand attached to the end of his tail, players must piece together what has happened, and what looming dangers might still be lurking. Before long you'll realize you’re locked up in a house with an eccentric family whose demeanour doesn’t bode well. Do you have what it takes to make sense of this strange setting and those who occupy it?

2nd Place - Play Pretend by Kaleidoscope Games

In Play Pretend players are able to dive straight into the imaginations of their friends on the school playground. Collect cool Ideas to upgrade your imaginary powers - or create your own. Combine Ideas to create wacky and powerful combos. Befriend your classmates, play as them or against them. Play Pretend is a cute, approachable rogue-lite where players battle their way through the fantastical worlds of their peer's imaginations at school.

3rd Place - Horror Stories: Harvest Hunt by CMD:Studio

Harvest Hunt is a first-person, stealth horror game, played over multiple 10-15 minute runs. Offering a unique blend of horror and rogue-lite, Harvest Hunt features a dark European folklore setting combined with the replayability of roguelites in order to offer a game filled with tension. The gameplay itself will see players come face to face with a powerful creature that is decimating their village’s harvest. With each moon phase, players must face the creature in ever-changing conditions, and as the village's protector, it's their job to banish it by using appropriate tools and abilities.
