PC and console sales dropped 7.1% in Europe in 2022

The number of PC and console games sold in Europe last year dropped by 7.1 per cent year-on-year.

That's according to GSD data – reported by GI.biz – which shows that 159 million games for these formats were shifted in 2022. 82.5 million of these – 51 per cent – were digital downloads, while the remaining 76.6 million were sold in store.

FIFA 23 was the highest-selling title going by the digital-only charts – perhaps unsurprisingly – with sales coming up three per cent higher than last year's entry in the football blockbuster franchise. EA's title was the No.1 title in most European countries, too.

In second place is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which sold 73 per cent better than 2021's Call of Duty: Vanguard. The No.3 spot goes to Elden Ring, which was also the highest-selling title in Finland.

Here is the digital-only European GSD 2022 Top Ten:

1. FIFA 23, EA
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Activision
3. Elden Ring, Bandai Namco
4. Grand Theft Auto 5, Rockstar
5. FIFA 22, EA
6. Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar
7. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Warner Bros
8. God of War Ragnarok, Sony
9. F1 22, EA
10. Gran Turismo 7, Sony
