Resident Evil 7 closes in on 8m sales

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard has shifted more than 7.9m units since its 2017 launch.

That's according to publisher Capcom's investor relations page, which shows that the title is the best-selling entry in the Resident Evil series to date. It's also the Japanese firm's second best-selling entry overall, coming in behind Monster Hunter: World, which has sold a whopping 16.1m copies.

The Resident Evil series as a whole has also sold more than 103m units to date, meaning that the franchise has shifted three million copies since June of this year when the horror IP had clocked in 100m units.

Resident Evil 8/Village was announced during Sony's PlayStation 5 reveal event in June 2020 and is set to launch in 2021. Reports of a new title in the horror franchise being released next year emerged at the start of 2020.

A remake of Resident Evil 3 was released in April of this year, shifting two million copies in its first five days. There are also reports of a remake of Resident Evil 4 being on the way.
