Cate Blanchett might be appearing in Borderlands film

Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett is rumoured to portray Lillith in the Borderlands movie adaptation.

As reported by Variety, the Thor: Ragnarok star is currently in talks to take Lillith to the big screen – one of the protagonists front he first game. Eli Roth – known for Hostel and Cabin Fever – will direct the film.

Gearbox has added credibility to the rumours as it took to Twitter (below) to share its excitement over the news.

"We are incredibly excited about this news. Borderlands is shaping up to be an amazing movie," said Gearbox.

The franchise began in 2009 with the release of Borderlands. The sequel followed in 2012, with the Pre-Sequel being released two years later. Borderlands 3 was released in September 2019.

At launch, the latest entry in the franchise boasted 248k concurrent players on PC. Furthermore, upon coming to Steam in March, Borderlands 3 had 93.5k simultaneous users. For its first six months of release, the game was exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC.

Publisher 2K has claimed that as a whole, the franchise has exceeded $1 billion in lifetime revenue.
