There's a new map coming to Playerunknown's Battlegrounds

Developer PUBG Corp has revealed that a new map is coming to Playerunknown's Battlegrounds.

This is called Karakin and is a smaller 2km by 2km island, smaller than the current maps in rotation, and supports 64 players rather than the regular 100 users. There's also an underground network of tunnels that bring the size of the map up somewhat. This will be the fifth map to come to the game.

The company has also introduced a new threat to players called the Black Zone, which is announced by a siren and puts users at risk of a variety of threats which can potentially destroy buildings. That's on top of a number of new weapons and a glider vehicle which is coming to current maps Erangel and Miramar, too.

This comes years after Playerunknown's Battlegrounds release when the title is waning in popularity, surprising many of the users still playing the game. The title still sold 10m copies from the middle of 2018 until the end of last year though, which isn't bad. On PC, however, the game has seen an 82 per cent drop in average monthly users on Steam from its peak at the start of 2018

The title's creator Brendan 'Playerunknown' Greene has moved on to working on a new title called Prologue
