Twitch streamer Dr Disrespect signs a deal for a new TV show

Twitch streamer Guy "Dr Disrespect" Beahm has landed a TV show.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Beahm has signed a deal with Skybound Entertainment - known for The Walking Dead - for a show about his alter ego. The character Dr Disrespect is based on a wrestler.

"We are pretty early in terms of the creative and the direction we want to take it," said Beahm.

Skybound co-founder and CEO David Alpert added: "There are lots of incredibly talented streamers, but there's something special about what Guy has done in creating this character.”

"We really believe there's a unique world around the doctor. Dr Disrespect is the largest figure to ever be in the video game space in the history of the world.”

The show will focus on a backstory for the character, it will explain “how the doctor became the doctor.” However, the programme is still in development.

"You can’t fully explore that in the stream itself, but getting inside that narrative is what got us excited about working with Beahm," said Alpert.

Beahm added: "The one thing I try to focus on is making sure everything stays consistent. You don’t want to lose the authenticity of the character."

While there's no denying Beahm's popularity, the streamer has faced controversy over his career. Most recently, his Twitch channel was suspended and his E3 media credentials revoked after he decided to film in, um, a toilet at the LA trade show on June 11th, 2019. His Twitch channel was reinstated on June 25th.
