Quiet release slate sinks Digital Bros’ 2018 end of year results

Digital Bros. financial year has suffered after a drought of new releases.

The Italian firm, which makes most of its revenue through publishing subsidiary 505 Games, posted a 42.7 per cent year-over-year decrease in gross revenue. Over 2018, Digital Bros. earned gross revenue of $86.4 million (€76 million). Net profits dropped 19 per cent to $10.5 million (€9.2 million).

Premium games were the lion's share of revenue earned but declined $58 million (€51 million) year-over-year. Free to play games, a much smaller part of the company’s operations, dropped 24.9 per cent to $6.6 million (€5.8 million) year-on-year.

The biggest earners for Digital Bros. were back catalogue titles 2011’s Terraria, and 2013’s Payday 2. Despite their age, the two games brought Digital Bros roughly £18.7 million (€16.4 million) in revenue.

It’s not all doom and gloom for Digital Bros though. 2019 is projected to be much stronger for the company, with both Overkill’s The Walking Dead and Remedy’s Control (pictured) slated for release.

Altogether, Digital Bros is projecting revenue between $165 million and $216 million next year.
