The Overwatch League’s Shanghai Dragons team has let go of 8 players from it’s 11-strong lineup.
Following an inaugural season that saw China’s only League team lose all 40 games, Shanghai Dragons announced a team overhaul through twitter (below).
The departing players are Cheng “Altering” Yage, Xu “Freefeel” Peixuan, Chen “Fiveking” Zhaoyu, Jing “Roshan” Wenhao, Liu “Xushu” Junjie, Chon “Ado” Gi-hyeon, He “Sky” Junjian, and Kim “Daemin” Dae-min. Weida “Diya” Lu, Eui-Seok "Fearless" Lee, and fan-favourite Se-yeon "Geguri" Kim remain on the team.
Shanghai Dragons also lost head coach on “Kong” Jun-Young, following the dismissal of two more coaches earlier in the year. No replacements have been named as of writing.
By the end of the League, Shanghai Dragons seemed desperate to assure fans that it was trying its best to grab a single win. But an open letter aimed at doing so instead raised concerns that players were being needlessly overworked.
With a mix of Korean and Chinese players, Shanghai Dragons was hit with communication problems from the start. Over the course of the League, the team never found a way to make its lineup work, but found a soft-spot from fans looking for the plucky underdog.
The Shanghai Dragons has released Altering,Freefeel,Fiveking,Roshan,Xushu,Ado,Sky and Daemin from their contracts with the team.
