Capcom might remake the Resident Evil remake

Capcom isn’t writing of another remake of the first Resident Evil.

The horror staple is already seeing renewed relevance thanks to the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 2, announced at E3 this year.

With discussing brewing around the franchise again, some are wondering if there’ll be another remake of 1996’s premier entry. Resident Evil has already seen a major re-release on Gamecube in 2002, with a remaster of the remake on PC and current generation consoles in 2015.

“We’ve got a lot of fans who ask for their favourite games, but we’re not going to commit to anything right now” director Kazunori Kadoi, speaking to Game Informer at Gamescom. “We’d like to keep our possibilities open for the future and see what makes the most sense when we come to it.

“We don’t want to feed just nostalgia. We want to bring [out] how people felt about the original games and if we can, reimagine it in a way so that it bridges the generation gap between people who played it 20 years ago and newcomers.”

Resident Evil isn’t the only classic franchise Capcom is invested in remaking, either. The publisher mentioned looking back at Devil May Cry, and this week announced a re-release of 2001’s Onimusha: Warlords.
