Speedrunners raise more than $2.1m at this year’s Summer Games Done Quick

Annual speedrunning event Summer Games Done Quick raised over $2.1 million this year.

Games Done Quick is a bi-annual speedrunning marathon, consisting of two week-long events. Summer Games Done Quick wrapped up this weekend, while Awesome Games Done Quick took place earlier this January.

For 24 hours a day over a week, speedrunners stream runs of games live on Twitch, with donations taken from viewers going directly to charity. Sales of GDQ merchandise likewise goes to support charitable organisations.

The record-breaking $2.1 million raised this year will go to Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières). The organisation provides medical relief across the world, primarily to underdeveloped regions ravaged by war, natural disaster or disease.

All streamed runs will eventually be available to watch on the GDQ YouTube Channel. Donations are still open, and contributions can be made on the event site here.
