VIDEO: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey shows off speech, sword-fights and Socrates

Ubisoft gave the world its first look at Assassin’s Creed Odyssey during the publisher’s E3 showcase last night.

Odyssey was leaked just before E3, with Ubisoft confirming the title’s existence shortly thereafter. With cinematic and gameplay footage shown at Ubisoft’s showcase last night, Odyssey looks to continue in the footsteps of Origins, featuring a vast open world and a further lean into RPG-style mechanics.

The 11th mainline entry of the venerable franchise takes players to ancient Greece, playing a mercenary on a mission to avenge their family. Naval combat makes a return, scaled up from Origins, alongside larger land battles than the series has ever tacked.

Odyssey promises deeper interaction by bringing in dialogue choices with NPCs, demonstrated through a goofy conversation with Socrates. Players can choose from a male or female spartan warrior for their playthrough. Moving into a space Bioware appear to have abandoned with Anthem, romance is very much in the Grecian air - and both main characters can choose to flirt with male and female characters.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is set to launch on 5th October this year.
