The developer behind Biomutant has been snapped up by THQ Nordic.
The publisher has acquired Experiment 101 for an undisclosed sum, buying 100 per cent of the studio's shares as well as the IP for Biomutant.
That title was revealed at Gamescom and was one of the most talked-about games from the show. It's a open-world RPG.
Experiment 101 was founded by former Avalanche Studios developer Stefan Ljungqvist in 2015. This is the fourth studio that THQ Nordic owns in Sweden, following the purchases of Mirage Game Studios, Foxglove Studios and Pieces Interactive.
Biomutant is yet to have a release date, but THQ Nordic has said we'll find out more in 2018.
THQ Nordic was formerly Nordic Games; it rebranded in 2016 after acquiring the THQ name from the now-defunct publisher which went out of business in 2013.
As well as purchasing Experiment 101, THQ Nordic also decided to throw some good old fashioned shade (below) at EA over its closure of Visceral Games and purchase of Respawn. Blizzard did much the same over the Star Wars loot crate mess.
No, we did not shut down a studio before it... @EA
