Hitman now has more than 5m players

Developer IO Interactive has announced that its 2016 Hitman title has reached a new sales milestone.

The studio took to Twitter (below) to reveal that its episodic Hitman release has been played by more than five million people since its launch in March 2016.

This news follows publisher Square Enix was selling the developer, with many speculating that this was due to a less-than-stellar sales performance for Hitman.

IO Interactive is in fact now independent following a management buyout that saw the keep the Hitman IP as well as all proceeds gained from sales of the first season of Hitman.
