Tech giant Amazon is making some "significant" cuts to its video games division.
That's according to Bloomberg, which reports that the company's VP of audio, Twitch and games – Steve Boom – sent a memo to staff saying that there were going to be "significant role reductions" at its offices in Irvine and San Diego. That would be where Amazon's games publishing arm is located.
Boom added that the firm is "leaning into the things that Amazon does best".
It's unclear how many roles are going to be cut in the company's video games division, but over 14,000 staff are going to be made redundant at the corporation as a whole.
Part of the video games cuts is the company preparing to shut down its MMO New World; the servers are going to be kept live "through 2026".
"Your feedback and passion have been instrumental in evolving Aeternum into the world it is today, and our team is deeply grateful for this shared adventure," the company wrote.
"After four years of steady content updates and a major new console release, we've reached a point where it is no longer sustainable to continue supporting the game with new content updates."
