EA is finally killing Anthem

US publishing giant Electronic Arts is finally taking Anthem offline next year.

In a blog post on its website, the company wrote that it was pulling the title on January 12th, 2026. Consumers won't be able to purchase any in-game currency, but they are able to use whatever premium currency they already have.

"We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion and support over the years and we’d like to thank you for that," the company wrote.

EA has also insisted that the closure of Anthem has not led to any layoffs, though it isn't clear whether it will result in people losing their jobs later down the line.

Anthem was BioWare and Electronic Arts' big swing at a live-service title. It launched in early 2019 and failed to secure much of an audience. After its release, details about a rather troubled development emerged.

Later in 2019, BioWare said that it was looking to improve Anthem before confirming that it was reworking the game entirely. This even went as far for the proposed updated version of the game called Anthem Next, though this was cancelled.
