The co-creator of The Sims, Tim LeTourneau, has passed away.
In a post on social media, his wife Donna announced that he had died – according to GamesBeat – while a former member of the Maxis team took to Reddit to pay tribute to the development veteran. LeTourneau's career started at Maxis back in 1998 where he worked as a senior producer for eight years. He moved to parent company Electronic Arts, spending two years as an executive producer before being promoted to VP and GM of The Sims Studio in 2008.
In March 2011, he moved to Zynga to work as its VP of studios and was promoted to chief creative officer almost two years later. After a brief stint at Storm8 as its chief creative officer, he returned to Zynga for one year as SVP of games.
In March 2017, he was hired by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment as director of product design, leaving just over four-and-a-half years later to join Fortis Games as a senior advisor.
"There is a reason why I called it the Maxis family, because it has been that for most who work and worked there," the former Maxis staffer wrote on Reddit.
"A place where we could all contribute our skills, passion, and visions while keeping our humour, our energy, and our sanity. Tim was a true father of that family."
