Black Myth: Wukong hits 18m sales

Chinese smash hit Black Myth: Wukong has sold more than 18 million units to date.

That's according to Daniel Wu, the largest external shareholder in developer Game Science, who shared the figure with Bloomberg. The outlet also told that Black Myth: Wukong had a $70 million budget, a large chunk of which has come from Wu's Hero Games.

The investor also believes that Black Myth can shift over 30 million units to date.

“If you want to hear the truth, Game Science’s success today is built upon its four failures in a row,” Wu said.

“Wukong proves not only that we have top-notch game-making capabilities, but also we can tell a good story with Chinese elements.”

Back in 2017, Hero Games acquired a 20 per cent stake in Game Science for 60 million yuan ($8.5 million). Naturally, this slice of the pie is worth much more than that.
