New PC store Ultra Games set to launch this month

Ultra Games, a new PC storefront is set to be rolled later this month.

The service comes from PC platform Ultra, and is described as a "true next generation" storefront. The company claims that Ultra Games is going to have a more "contemporary and intuitive" approach to discoverability on the platform. It also claims to offer a "fairer" revenue split for customers, but does not disclose what the share actually is.

Ultra Games is launching on April 25th at 16:00 UTC with launch titles including Lords of the Fallen, The Walking Dead Definitive Series and WRC 7. The platform also allows gamers to resell titles from their library – if the developer or publisher wants to enable that option – and there is a referral system whereby users receive a percentage of any purchases people they bring to Ultra make. These last two features appear to be blockchain-based.

"The PC gaming distribution market is running out of steam and ripe for disruption," Ultra co-CEO
Nicolas Gilot said.

"Yes, the leading legacy platforms have been incredibly successful to date, but we believe there’s much room for improvement for gamers, devs and pubs. We explicitly engineered Ultra Games to address critical issues such as high fees for developers and lack of real, flexible game ownership for players. This is still only the beginning for us but, by addressing these issues, we want to help create more meaningful, more transparent relationships between communities. I can’t wait to see this vision start to come to fruition after five years of development and listening to the needs of developers and players.”
