Mediatonic vet Burnill launches publishing label Cult Games

Industry veteran Helen Burnill has set up a brand new indie games publisher Cult Games.

Speaking to GI.biz, the Mediatonic alum confirmed that the label already has three titles in its roster; Brightrock's Galacticare, a new game from Unpacking maker Witch Beam as well as a third unannounced project.

Burnill has said that as a publisher, it will not be involved in the development process and won't be claiming a studio's IP.

"Some publishers do get very involved, and that can be a really, really good thing," she said.

"It's definitely not a bad thing. Extra support and intelligence [that] helps you make the game better is not a bad thing. But that's just not what we're building.

"For me, great games can be made in lots of different ways. I believe that real breakouts don't tend to come from the boardroom. They tend to come from studios where you get real maniacal passion, studios that are more indie or super indie scale."

Burnill spent six and a half years at Fall Guys maker Mediatonic working in business development. She has also served as a board member for Film London, UKIE and RuneScape maker Jagex.
