Microsoft's Gears of War is the latest games franchise to make its way to Netflix.
The news was announced by the streaming giant on Twitter, saying that the shooter franchise is being adapted into both a feature film and an adult animation show. Netflix says that there is the potential for more content based on Gears of War in the future. In order to do this, it has teamed up with the franchise's current developer, The Coalition.
"Gears of War was released 16 years ago today and to mark the occasion, Netflix has partnered with The Coalition to adapt the Gears of War video game saga into a live-action feature film, followed by an adult animated series — with the potential for more stories to follow," the streaming firm wrote.
Gears of War debuted back in 2006 for the Xbox 360. Epic Games, of Fortnite fame, made the first three entries in the series, before Microsoft acquired the franchise and set up The Coalition to helm the franchise. There's also Gears of War Judgment, made by People Can Fly.
To date, the franchise has shifted over 40 million copies sold.
This comes in the wake of both Arcane: A League of Legends Story and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners making their debut on Netflix to record viewership.
