Diablo 4 will not have loot boxes or pay-to-win mechanics

Blizzard has laid out how Diablo 4 will be making money once it is released.

In a post on its website, the company said that the upcoming game will not feature loot boxes or any kind of play-to-win mechanics. Instead, the title will be using the Season Pass business model which has become much more popular in recent years.

Each season, players can earn items by playing but they will unlock more by acquiring Diablo 4's Premium Pass. Director of product Kegan Clark points out that all you unlock with this pass will be aesthetic cosmetics and won't affect gameplay.

By buying the Premium Pass, players will also earn Premium currency, which can be used in Diablo 4's shop.

"Cosmetics give players even more options to customise the visual appearance of their characters," wrote Kegan Clark, director of product for Diablo IV.

"Nothing offered in the Shop grants a direct or indirect gameplay advantage. So, while many of these may look like powerful pieces of gear, they have no in-game stats."

Diablo 4 is set to launch in 2023.
