Dreamhunt Studio's emotional adventure Unpetrified crowned Big Indie Pitch winner

Dreamhunt Studio's emotional adventure Unpetrified crowned Big Indie Pitch winner

We may be back on the road again, but that doesn't mean our digital pitches are going anywhere. In fact, we have a number of them planned for 2022, as our digital pitches have allowed us to highlight an ever-increasing range of diverse brand new gaming experiences from some of the world's most exciting indie developers.

Most recently that meant hosting our April Digital Big Indie Pitch (PC+Console Edition) #15. An event we hosted in part due to the overwhelming talent coming from indie developers at this time.

This time around we saw even more exciting and interesting indie developers pitch their latest works to some of our most established judges and journalists, with 14 battling it out for the crown. The competition was as always extraordinarily tough, but ultimately the judges were able to decide on a top-three and an ultimate winner. That winner was Unpetrified, a narrative-driven adventure of emotional discovery and exploration.

All the madness from our last Digital Big Indie Pitch

For those not in the know, The Big Indie Pitch is a regular event run by the makers of PCGamesInsider.biz. It gives indie developers the chance to pitch their games to industry experts and journalists in a speed-dating-style format. Teams get the opportunity to get valuable feedback on their games, as well as win great prizes such as promotional packages and opportunities to promote their game.

Of course, Unpetrified, as you already know, was the winner, but if you want to learn more about not only Unpetrified but also our runners-up from The Digital Big Indie Pitch (PC+Console Edition) #15, then simply read on.

1st Place - Unpetrified by Dreamhunt Studio

In Unpetrified you play as a stone creature who has just been newly brought into existence by a magical butterfly. As such, you must journey through a strange and fascinating world. Through this journey, our hero will learn all about what makes up this beautiful existence we call life, whilst at the same time hopefully finding a place they can call their very own home.

Whilst on this adventure, the stone creature will be exposed to a range of new emotions and challenging events, all of which reward the player with colourful flowers. These flowers then grow on the back of the main character in order to reflect their personal growth. From understanding emotions to saving animals in need, and even as far as even helping the very land itself flourish and prosper, prepare yourself for an emotional and heartfelt journey.

2nd Place - Psychroma by Rocket Adrift

Psychroma is a side-scrolling psychological horror game set in a cyberpunk future. One in which you take on the role of a medium as they investigate a socially disadvantaged drifter who seems to have an unusual connection to paranormal events.

Throughout the story, explore past trauma with a ghost that haunts a cyberpunk commune, explore the horror that exists within the present alongside the people that society has forgotten, and ultimately uncover the shocking events of a harrowing psychological experiment. It is only through facing the challenges and horror within both the past and the present that hope for the future can be found. A future that includes empathy, compassion, and community for everyone.

3rd Place - Karen The Chicken by Xnora Games

Karen The Chicken is a beautiful, mysterious and slightly crazy 3D adventure game. Within this game, you take on the role of the aforementioned Karen, a chicken who, in order to escape the dastardly clutches of Mr Boris and his farm must solve puzzles by interacting with the scenery, NPCs and any item left lying around.

Not everything will be successful, but with a number of possible escape routes, it's up to Karen to find as many as possible. It's only by doing this they may be able to escape to freedom. Are you up to the challenge? Or are you going to chicken out?
