This Is Reality's exploration of highs, lows and struggles of relationships and in the process wins The Big Indie Pitch

It feels like an age since we began hosting digital pitches in response to the global situation.

However, despite the circumstances that necessitated this move, our digital pitches have only gone from strength to strength. Allowing us to host an ever-increasing range of diverse brand new gaming experiences from some of the world's most exciting indie developers.

Most recently that meant hosting our first standalone PC+Console Big Indie Pitch of 2021. An event we hosted in part due to the overwhelming demand from talented indie developers for the last pitch.

All the madness from our last Digital Big Indie Pitch

In fact, this time around we saw even more exciting and interesting indie developers pitch their latest works to some of our most established judges and journalists, with 16 battling it out for the crown. As always, the competition was extremely tough, and we even had 4 rounds of tie-breaks in order to separate 2nd, 3rd and our honourable mention. Nevertheless, the judges did, in the end, settle on the top games from the pitch, with the winner being a near-unanimous decision. That winner was This is Reality, a rich narrative game that explores the highs, lows, and struggles of relationships.

For those not in the know, The Big Indie Pitch is a regular event run by the makers of PCGamesInsider.biz. It gives indie developers the chance to pitch their games to industry experts and journalists in a speed-dating-style format. Teams get the opportunity to get valuable feedback on their games, as well as win great prizes such as promotional packages and opportunities to promote their game.

Of course, This Is Reality, as you already know, was the winner, but if you want to learn more about not only This Is Reality but also our runners-up and honourable mention from The Digital Big Indie Pitch (PC+Console Edition) #6, then simply read on.

1st Place - This Is Reality by ScribbleScape

Beginning life as an award-winning Game Jam title, This Is Reality is a single-player side-scrolling platformer in which the player follows Liam and Lana through the highs, lows, challenges, and achievements of their relationship. In fact, this relationship is so important to the game that in many ways it could be considered the third lead character.

As such, throughout the game players will join Liam and Lana as they take on obstacles, and have amazing adventures within their home city of London. Of course, this will all require teamwork and a caring considerate approach, whether it's dealing with overbearing shop assistants, doing daily chores, or trying to find two seats together on the London Underground. There will be highs and lows along the way, but it'll be up to you to help them navigate these and grow a truly strong relationship.

2nd Place - the DOG. First Person Sniffer by GOOD BOY cooperative

Ever wondered what it would be like to literally be a Dog? Well if so then wonder no more, as that's exactly what this game offers. Taking place totally from a first-person perspective (or should we say first-dog perspective), you will be challenged with barking at those pesky birds, convincing your human to take you out for a walk, discovering new and interesting things, and generally just having a good time.

In fact, with whole parks to explore, lots of pats to acquire, and various places available to mark your territory, there is an abundance of content on offer here, and all of it created with the primary principles of fun, happiness, and generally just living your best life. Oh and outwitting the humans in your life.

3rd Place - Wild Planet by Lukyantsev Company

Playable either as a solo, or a co-operative experience, in Wild Planet players are tasked with exploring and surviving on a newly discovered alien planet. Of course, to achieve this players will be able to build, craft, hunt, and even utilise the help of their friends in order to both survive and hopefully thrive on this barren planet.

Of course, as you might expect, it's not just the Alien onslaught that players will have to contend with, as there will also be an ever-evolving landscape. One in which the players' actions will fundamentally change the challenges players will be faced with. Finally, with a top-down view, deep tactical gameplay, dungeons to explore, secrets to uncover, and a community to build, this is a game that promises to offer a wealth of high-quality content for players to enjoy and dive into.

Honourable Mention - Ziggy's Cosmic Adventures by Stardust Collective

If having a top three wasn't enough, the judging was so close that it would have been wrong for us not to highlight a game that only missed the top 3 by the smallest of margins. As such, let us introduce you to our honourable mention, Ziggy's Cosmic Adventure.

In this single-player VR space adventure, players take on the role of an intergalactic bounty hunter, who is piloting a fully interactive spaceship. The gameplay begins after the interpret bounty hunter has stolen an incredibly cute Alien known as Ziggy, and must now race against the clock to escape the pursuing Armada. As such, throughout the gameplay that combines resource management and hectic arcade combat, players will be challenged with dodging asteroids, battle alien spaceships, maintain the ships life support systems, and of course, keep Ziggy happy.
