Epic is seeing if players want Fortnite subscription

Games giant Epic is seeing if players will pay for a new monthly subscription for Fortnite.

The news comes via a post on Redditas spotted by Fortnite specialist FireMonkey on Twitter – which shows that the company is surveying fans of the battle royale about this potential new offering. Dubbed "Monthly Crew Pack," Epic is seeing if people can see what is offered in this new subscription and what they'd pay for this package.

The monthly offering will give players the current season Battle Pass, an outfit pack for subscribers which non-subscribers would be able to buy afterwards, as well as 1,000 of Fortnite's V-Bucks each month.

Between its launch in 2017 and May 2020, Fortnite has attracted over 350m players. In the summer, Epic showed three Christopher Nolan films in the game in order to promote the director's new movie, Tenet.

Largely off the back of Fortnite, Epic Games has been valued at a massive $17.3bn, having previously landed a $250m investment from PlayStation maker Sony.

In 2019, a massive $1.8bn was spent digitally on Fortnite according to research firm SuperData.
